More on the courses:

ΜΟΥΣΕΙΟΝ hosts four hands-on music-making courses in Matera, each four days long – Harp, Dance & Song, Lyre, and Aulos – running Nov 2026–Mar 2027, capped at 16 people and open to all, including complete beginners. Days are spent singing, playing, building instruments and moving, working toward a shared performance by the end of the course.

Do I need an instrument?

No – you can build a simple, playable one as part of the lyre and aulos courses, or borrow one. Lyres will be available on all courses, and you can reserve an instrument for the Harp course. There's no prior experience needed either!

How many on each course?

Max 16 – deliberately small, so you get real one-to-one time with tutors like Barnaby Brown and Nikos Xanthoulis, not just group instruction. Every course also includes individual coaching, building toward a shared performance together.

Is this based on real research?

Yes – you'll be working with scholars like Stefan Hagel and Ian Rutherford on interpreting historical evidence. Nobody knows exactly how ancient Greek music sounded, which is what makes evidence-based performance so compelling.
